Understanding the verb DO


Hello Students,

After the verb "be," the verb "do" is the second most important verb to master in English. It can be a helping verb and a main verb, and as a main verb, it has some very particular applications. Try this exercise. If you don't do well on it, I'll list for you some links to pages on my site and some YouTube videos that should help you better understand how to use "do." 



Directions: Choose the correct form of the verb "do."

2. We _________ our shopping on Friday morning. (present tense)

5. ________ eat that! (command)

8. Yeah, I ________ it! (past tense)

9. They _______ _______ ________ ________ some exercises. ("going to" future tense)

10. These apples _________ taste very good. (present tense--negative)
