Some
of my students have trouble using the correct word when the choices are
between "would like" or "like." Here's a quick lesson in the
difference:
Use "would
like" when you want something, now or in the future.
Use "like" when you have experience with something or someone. You "like" something because you know about it.
Directions: Choose among the words listed below. Some sentence or questions ask only for the helping verbs:
would like like likes would do
1. She ________ pizza. It's her favorite food.
2. I ___________ to order a pizza.
3. Which one does he __________?
4. We thought you ___________ this.
5. ________ you _________ cats?

The answers are at the bottom of the page.
