Hello Students,
Do you ever use "used to" when talking about the past? If not, this is a good choice when describing some part of your life that is completely finished.
For example:
When I was a boy, I used to play baseball every day in the summer.
So, now I'm a man, and I don't play baseball every day in the summer. That part of my life is finished.
Red Level Lesson Twenty-three provides more information about "used to," but I would also like you to try the exercise here in this email.
Remember to write your answers in the
notebook that you use with the website. (You're writing out your answers for exercises and quizzes, right? Good!)
Directions: Change each sentence so that the past tense verb uses "used to." The main verb should be in the simple form.
Example: We lived in New York. ---> We used to live in New York.
1. I played in that park when I was a boy.
2. We ate hamburgers all the time.
3. They went to the beach to swim.
4. I was skinny.
5. My hair was long.
6. Maria never woke up early.
7. Roberto drove a truck when he lived in Mexico.
8. David watched a lot of TV.
9. Sophia went shopping every day in France.
10. There were a lot of houses on this street.
You can check your answers below.
Tomorrow's Red Level lesson is on "be used to." This is different from "used to."
+ There's a new Word of the Day quiz for July 2015.
+ There's a new Think in English exercise for the word "hunger."
That's all for now.
Have a nice day!
Your teacher,
Paul
PEACE!
