Talking about the future with BE GOING TO

This week we learned about the differences between forming the future tense with "will" and "be going to." It's especially important to learn how to use "be going to" because we often use it for the near-term future as well as the distant future. Red Level Lesson Twelve provides instruction in this, but I'll show you some examples here, too.

Remember, when using "be going to" to talk about the future,  the verb "be" changes according to the subect. If you understand that, you're halfway there. If that's confusing, Blue Level Lesson One explains how the verb "be" changes.

After the verb "be," use "going to" and that's followed by the main verb in the simple form. So the formula looks like this:

S + (be) going to + ________ (main verb)

Examples:

He is going to go.
We are going to eat.
They are going to leave.
I am going to be at work tomorrow.

Understand? If not, review this lesson and then try the exercise below:

Directions: Complete each sentence or question with the "going to" future. The main verb is in parentheses.

Write your answers in your notebook.

1.  It ______ ______ _____ _____ hot today. (be)

2. What _____ you ______ ______ ______ tonight? (do)

3. My friend ______ ______ _____ _______ a party. (have)

4. ______ they ______ ______ ______ with us? (go)

5. Where _____ she _______ ______ _______ her car? (park)

6. I _____ ______ ______ ________ them at the game. (meet)

8. School _____ _______ ______ _______ in late August. (start)

9. ______ you _______ _______ ________ that class? (drop)

10. They ______ _______ ______ _______ some new clothes. (get)

That's all for now.

Have a great weekend!

Your teacher,

Paul

PEACE!
