Hello Students,
This is the next lesson in a series of lessons for helping verbs.
The verb "have" is used as a helping verb when forming perfect tenses. (This Yellow Level Lesson provides additional help if you need it.)
The verb "have" takes different forms for different perfect tenses: has, have, had, will have, have been, had been, will have been....
For example:
Present perfect tense: Use "have" or "has" + the past participle for the main verb
Past perfect tense: Use "had" + the past participle
Future perfect tense: Use "will have" + the past participle
Present perfect continuous tense: Use "have" or "has" + been + the present participle ("ing" word)
Past perfect: Use "had" + the past participle.
- Have you had any coffee yet? (The helping verb "have" is used with the main verb "had" to form this present perfect tense question.)
- That had never occurred to me before. (The helping verb "had" is used with the main verb "occur" to form the past perfect tense.)
- She has been working all night. (There are two helping verbs in this sentence, "has" and "been." Along with the main verb, "work," they form the present perfect continuous tense.)
I made a new YouTube video

used as a helping verb. It's a short video, but it might help you.
